Freelancers: The First Step

We've All Been There...

We all have been there. You know what I’m talking about… creating a profile on a freelance site then get pissed if we have no bites within a day or two. Especially after spending hours perfecting our profile. But what if I were to tell you it’s easier than you thought? With help from Work from Throne! I’m here to let you in on the tips and tricks based on proven methods I’ve used myself. So come on in, get a cup of coffee (or tea) and take a seat, let’s chat!

Why You're Failing. Miserably.

We’re friends right? I hope so, because what I’m about to say may hurt. But you know…tough love. Maybe what you’re doing isn’t working. If you’re reading this and you agree, buy me some coffee.

Well why? Why isn’t what you’re doing working? I’ll tell you why. You either picked a freelance site that is complicated, convulted, and ridiculous, OR you didn’t put in consistent effort. Be honest with yourself. Which one is it? Maybe it’s both?

That is A-Ok! I’ve been there DONE that as well! Some freelance sites are setup so strange. You have to pay to get points in order to bid for a job. Or you can only apply to certain jobs via invite. This type of setup is:

1)Very Annoying

2) Gets old fast

3) ANNOYING

4) Feels like the freelance site isn’t really thinking about you, the freelancer at all.

Pretty crappy feeling, right?  You’re not alone. I have tried most all of the freelance sites but to no avail. Or I gained little traction that fizzled out as quickly as an American Independence Day sparkler.

Hello Fiverr!

I know what you may be thinking. Yes, really. I tried fiverr twice before I FINALLY realized how to succeed on the platform. Long story short, I setup my first account pretty much half-‘booty’ and I take full responsibility for that. Thing is, fiverr was new, and I really thought I had done a good job at setting up my account. I had liked that I didn’t need to jump through as many hoops as the other freelancer sites required. No coins to buy, no invite VIP only crap, none of that.  Unfortunately, I got impatient and *poof* that was the end of our love story until…

Fiverr came to me again a few years later. Tall, Green, and Handsome (like I like my money). And I couldn’t refuse. Since it had been YEARS later, (I’m being dramatic..maybe 3-ish years ) after our last escapade together, my old account had been deleted.

I was a new woman! I was excited! My heart was beating fast and I signed up and set up my gigs. Only THIS time was different.

  • I did my research.
  • I looked at competitors in my category
  • I took notes
  • I created great gig art (more on that later)
  • I set up my profile COMPLETELY
  • Oh my, oh my there’s so much more that I did!
    • Check out the next podcast for the COMPLETE run down on how to REALLY get sales on fiverr and for details on how to get the Work From Throne FIVERR Success CHECKLIST!

I made sales! First one sale…then another…and another! Next thing I knew I was fiverr’s choice for a bit of time as well! If you’ve read up until this point, I hope you can tell how excited I was!

I ordered food from doordash just to keep burning the midnight oil. I took vacays 100% paid for by my gigs. I had flexibility and baby I felt on top of the world!

Never Too Late

It’s never too late to get started (or re-started)! I really love the system fiverr uses, especially if you’re a newbie freelancer.

Here’s why:

  • You stay accountable
  • Great for exposure for obtaining clients
  • Money is handled well
  • Organized and Fair
  • Levels and incentives for providing great service
  • Become a freelancer yourself AND HIRE other freelancers as well. Give back to your freelance community!

I will have a resources page for information & links you can access if you’d like to skip the reading and just get started. More to come soon!
